Gert-Johan Coetzee is bringing something completely new to South African Fashion Week. His Spring Summer 2027 collection debuts in "Behind The Crimson Door," a theatrical production running at The Cirk from April 24 to June 14, 2026.
This isn't your typical fashion show. Coetzee has teamed up with performance company CIRK to create something that blends high fashion with aerial acrobatics and storytelling. Think couture meets circus, with a powerful message about chasing your dreams.
The story follows Charlotte, a farm girl who leaves home for the big city. She gets overwhelmed by all the lights and chaos, but eventually realizes something important – the fear was all in her head. Once she finds the courage to pursue her dreams, everything changes.
This hits close to home for Coetzee, who grew up on a farm in North West province. "When you come from a small town, the world can feel incredibly big," he says. "Sometimes the dream itself becomes the scariest part. But fear is often just the beginning of something extraordinary."
The show uses doors as symbols throughout – each one representing a choice between staying safe or stepping into the unknown. The collection evolves with the story, starting simple and building to bold, dramatic pieces designed for aerial performance.
"Every dream is a door," Coetzee explains. "Fear may stand on one side of it, but courage is what allows you to walk through it."
The production features eight talented aerialists and singer Danica Bezuidenhout. Director Joanna Pawelczyk promises "a production like no other" that brings Gert's costumes to life through striking dance and compelling storytelling.
With only 220 tickets per show, you'll want to book early through The Cirk website.
